My parents took a needed vacation to Florida for the weekend. They went to visit my Uncle and celebrate my aunt's, mother's 80 th birthday. ..oh yeah and see The Maple Leafs play in Florida.
My mother is one of those innately kind people that will talk to anyone about anything. A trait my brother has become adept at as well. I received my father's "quick to judge but still usually accurate" gene. (This is all in homage to Jomama's blog on genetics apparently.)
Well she went to the lobby of the hotel for coffee and literally bumped into a man while they were getting their coffee. She recognized him in an instant, being the loyal member of Leaf Nation, as Brian Burke, the Toronto GM. They exchanged pleasantries and sat at separate tables.
Mr. Burke got up, walked over to her and invited her to sit with him. Of course she did! They talked about my dad being a cop, the reason they were in Florida for a game and not Toronto (Maybe he thought they held the map up side down or something), and her family, and his family.
After an hour he took his leave, gave her his email so she could attend a game closer to home. I was blown away by the story. I also was sad my father missed the exchange. I did find out that later he got a few minutes to speak with Mr. Burke, and I can tell it made his day.
Thank God for those people that can make such a big difference to a random stranger....and actually do it.

Your Uncle DH was extremely impressed by this story. It sounds like they had a nice trip.
