...we trek on...

I was informed that the closing may have to be Tuesday morning. This could not be worse timing. Well it *could* be worse, it could not happen at all. The closing would have to be done by noon so we can still get Maggie on her plane to Florida for work. I feel bad she will miss out on this first day. She'll be gone a few days, but she will have to sign and fly. Literally.

I did fine yesterday with 600 fewer calories, however I weighed in 2 lbs heavier today. I am going to chalk that up to the natural flux and keep moving forward. I just have to find things that peak my interest so that I think less about food and more about anything else. I hear owning a home will keep me busy.

Until such time as I am busy with my house, I have taken up genealogy. I have traced my father's liniage back to the early 1800's and my mothers back to around the 1850's. Its very interesting to see the pedigree of yourself and other family members.

I have traced it back far enough back with my father's side, that I may have traced down the original Whiffen that came from Wales to Newfoundland to settle the island where they landed. Apparently there were 3 brothers that set sail for the New Continent looking for fishing grounds. Story is the 3 brother's loved it so much in Newfoundland, that the 3 jumped ship and stayed: Maurice, William, and another who's name I am not sure of. We are descendants of William, and my dad has met the descendants of Maurice I think.

I have also found all sorts of Immigration papers and Census forms, and draft cards for all members of my family. I did it through Ancestry.com and it has been fun. We've even connected the Whiffens to a family tree of the Shave-Fleming family in NFLD. I wonder if we can go back further and further.

Weird to think about 200+ year old blood coursing through our veins, isn't it?

  1. It's older than that, we just don't know which Neanderthal to trace it back to!
